Jarvis Street in Erindale is named after Henry Jarvis, an early horse-tram driver who worked locally and lived on Knightsbridge Road.
To provide fresh milk for his family (including seven children), Jarvis kept a cow in a paddock located on Knightsbridge Road and Howard Terrace.
His son Arnold Jarvis (1881-1957), went on to become a talented artist known for his classic Australian gum tree scenes.
Henry Jarvis is not the only tram driver remembered nearby. Streets like Goyder and Wallace are also named after horse tram drivers, reflecting the important role this transport once played in the local community.
